Both the Malmesbury Victoria FC, based at the Flying Monk Groung and the Town Council have been approached in recent days by the Co-op as regards the possibility of their neighbouring store being replaced by a superstore on the Flying Monk ground.
Malmesbury Victoria FC is a tenant of the Flying Monk ground, its landlord being Malmesbury Town Council.
The Club, together with the other two tenants of the ground, the Athelstan Players and Malmesbury Boxing Club, are willing to enter into discussions regarding the proposal with the Co-op and the Town Council. In any negotiations it will be a minimum requirement to the redevelopment that all three tenants are provided with suitable alternative premises and facilities.
At a meeting of the Town Council on 13th November Club committee member Sid Jevons asked that all three tenants be involved in any discussions between the Council and the Co-op. The Town Council is now awaiting further contact from the Co-op in order to consider the matter further.
This is a statement from MVFC re Co-op Superstore.
