It's lights fantastic again in Charlton, Wiltshire, this year as Michaela Swadling-Stickler adorns her home in festive lights to raise money for Epilepsy Research UK

A huge fan of Christmas since she was a toddler, Michaela Swadling-Stickler has always enjoyed a few festive decorations. But since losing her father to epilepsy in 2009, she has made it her mission to make them bigger and better each year in an effort to raise money for Epilepsy Research UK.

The display, made up tens of thousands of lights, has practically tripled in size over the last few years. It takes over six weeks for Michaela to get ready; even with the help of three electricians working full time for a week. But the hard work is paying off – the display attracts visitors from across the county with many more choosing to donate online.

Michaela said: "I lost my mum at a young age to cancer which left me, my dad and my three brothers. My dad and I became extremely close, so losing him in 2009 to epilepsy was the second biggest punch in the guts I've ever experienced.

All I ask is that if you see my lights please donate as much or as little as you can to Epilepsy Research UK. If I can help someone else suffering with epilepsy in any way to have a fuller and more enjoyable life, then I will do all I can."

If you would like to make a donation, there are collection boxes at the house (address: Homefield, Charlton, Malmesbury, Wiltshire, SN16 9DH); or alternatively, you can donate online via Just Giving at: www.charltonlights.co.uk.

About Epilepsy Research UK

Epilepsy Research UK supports the work of scientists and clinicians throughout the UK, who are investigating all aspects of epilepsy in both adults and children. They are especially looking at what causes epilepsy, who gets it, what goes on in the brain during a seizure, and safer drugs and better surgical techniques to treat it.
