A BARMAID has been left distraught after she had £1,500 stolen from her handbag while at work in a Sherston pub.

After finishing her shift at the Carpenter’s Arms, Tammie Scrivens, who lives in Luckington, was going to buy her first car with the money which she had been saving up since starting her job last year.

The incident happened about midday on Wednesday, March 29, a time before the pub was open to customers.

Tammie said: “I was planning to leave work early to pick up my new car, so I had the money on me.

“I saved so hard for it since July.

“Before I left work I had a thought in my head to go and check the bag and the money had been taken.

“I went into the kitchen for two minutes to grab the cutlery, that’s the only time it could’ve happened as there was always someone in the bar.

“Someone knew I was getting my car straight from work, would have my money on me and knew that the door was open before opening time.

“I’m hoping it’s no one I know, I’m really hoping it’s a randomer because that would be the worst if it was somebody I know.

“We do have cameras but we’ve been having problems with them so they didn’t record anything from the situation.

“The police were informed, they had sniffer dogs and they’re trying their best to get the money back.

“They have been very good but said they’ve got nothing to go on because we’ve got no evidence, we didn’t see anyone take it and didn’t get anything on camera.”

It’s not all bad news for Tammie though, as her family were able to scrape together enough money to buy the car.

She said: “I was very thrilled that my family was able to get me the money because this car is all I’ve ever wanted really but it has been a struggle and will be a struggle for the rest of the year because it’s all the money I was able to save up.”

Wiltshire police said: “We’ve received a report that £1,500 cash was stolen from a handbag which was left unattended on top of the bar in the Carpenters Arms, Sherston. The incident happened between 12.05pm and 12.15pm on 29 March. Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
