Malmesbury & St Paul Without Residents’ Association
Malmesbury & St Pauls Without Residents' Association (MSPWRA) is currently working on numerous campaigns for the benefit of the local community and to ensure that local residents have an effective voice.
RAID - Residents Against Indiscriminate Development
Campaign to prevent further large-scale development in Malmesbury, without first undertaking a full review of infrastructure requirements. We believe the outcomes of the infrastructure assessment should be implemented, in consultation with the local community, before any further development takes place.
Background: Since 2001, 708 houses have been built in Malmesbury - 166 of which are either currently under construction or as yet unoccupied. As a result, Malmesbury's infrastructure is now under immense pressure.
Key infrastructure concerns centre around the following:
- The impact on roads - traffic flow, congestion
- Parking issues
- Healthcare
- Employment
- Education
Road speed limits
A campaign to maintain the current speed limit of 40 mph, instead of increasing to 50mph, on the 3 principal roads in and around Malmesbury - the A429, B4014 and B4040 was mounted earlier in the year. There was a successful outcome as the proposal was subsequently withdrawn by Wiltshire Highways.
Filands Community Park
A project to design and establish a Community Park for all residents at Filands commenced earlier in 2010. A Residents' Steering Group was elected and they have developed a plan against which equipment suppliers are now tendering. We are aiming for the project to be completed by Spring 2011.
