A mystery event is causing a flurry of excitement for residents of a Wiltshire village. Posters have gone up around the streets of Sherston exclaiming: ‘Save the Date – June 15 & 16’.
Organisers of the secret event planned for the village hope their publicity scheme will help to garner as much interest as possible before they reveal their big news next month. One local man, who wished to remain anonymous for fear that people will be able to work out what the surprise is, said: “Nobody knows what is planned. “We are doing this to get a bit of interest. We could put a poster up and people will think ‘oh yeah’ but then forget about it, so when people do find out about it, it will hopefully stick in their head. “We’ve been working on this for a month or two and we hope it will be big.” The large posters, which have been seen attached to lamp posts at the entrance to the village, coming off the B4040, were put up late at night to avoid the organiser being caught. The signs impress on passers-by the importance of the event with the message: ‘... and you don’t want to miss this..’
Sherston parish councillor Martin Rea admits he, and fellow parish councillors, are equally baffled. “It seems to have got people talking about what it might be,” he said. “Whoever has done this is playing it very cleverly at the moment. “People have been looking in their diaries to try to work out what it could be. It’s all very mysterious at the moment. People are racking their brains over it, because they know it’s not the Queen’s Jubilee, that’s the previous week, and we know it’s not the Olympics. I will definitely be saving the date for whatever it might be.”
