The Queens Diamond Jubilee 2012Malmesbury will be celebrating the Diamond Jubilee in style this June, with a strong community atmosphere present throughout the proceedings. Details of the planned events are as follows...

On Saturday 2nd June there will be a Marquee-based Formal Dinner and Dance on The Worthies, courtesy of Mr. & Mrs Mike Weaver. Music will be provided by Tim Newman and his celebration Jazz Band, in addition to a disco. There will be a three course meal, provided by Manor Events. Tickets can be purchased from the Town hall, and are priced at £49.00 each. Please be aware that tickets are limited.

During the afternoon of the 2nd June there will be a Tea Party in the Town Hall for the senior members of the community.

Monday 4th June will see a community event being staged again on the Worthies. There will be fun for all the family - with a fancy dress competition, children’s races, disco, funfair and other amusements, which will begin mid-afternoon. In the evening there will be dancing to “The Flying Monks”, and later, at around about 10pm a beacon will be lit to join with others around the country. This will be followed by a fireworks display.

It is hoped that Wiltshire Council will give approval for the closure of Cross Hayes on Tuesday 5th. If so, then a community party will take place with music being provided by the Dubious Brothers and others. Residents will be encouraged to bring their picnics, tables and seats and enjoy the celebrations. Joining this will be a party from Gien, one of our three twin towns. The other two Malmesbury South Africa and Neibull have also been invited. Other smaller street parties are being organised in White Lion Park and Reeds Farm.

The organisers are on the look out for other forms of entertainment for the events on Monday and Tuesday. Those interested in providing entertainment without charge are requested to contact Ray Sanderson on 07710082085 or email

On the evening of Sunday 10th the Diamond Jubilee and Civic Service will take place in the Abbey.
