Sue is going to donate a new cup to the Rotary Club, in memory of her late husband John who was Mayor in 2006/7. The “John Poole Memorial Cup” will be presented to the young person aged between 16 and 25 years old, who in the opinion of the judges, (made up of representatives of the Rotary Club and the Town Council) have put “Service before Self”, this being the Rotary motto.

Previous winners include Luke Dicker from Hullavington, who won the Rotary International Great Britain & Ireland Young Citizen of the Year Competition in 2007/8 and starred in the BBC 2 documentary the “Coldest Classroom in the World”. Luke will be giving a short presentation on his experiences at the award ceremony. Harry Smith from Sherston was another success; he went on to win the RIBI Young Musician of the year in 2008/9.
The Young Citizen of the Year Award is made annually, by the Rotary Club of the South Cotswolds and presented at the Town Councils Citizen of the year ceremony, which is this year being held in April. Within our communities there are young people doing great things and they need to be recognised. Please put their names forward.
