FAMILIES in three Wiltshire villages braved the wind and the rain on Saturday to help raise funds for the Dauntsey Academy Primary School in West Lavington.

They followed the first Halloween Trail organised by the school’s Parents Teachers Association.

The trail is taking place until Saturday, October 31 and there are 35 spookily scary displays spread around West Lavington, Market Lavington and Littleton Panell.

School governor and parent, Emily Muns 43, whose two children Buddy, 9, and Ruby Rose, 5, were taking part, said: “We normally hold a Halloween Scarecrow Trail in West Lavington but were forced to cancel it because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The school’s Halloween disco was also cancelled and the children are being urged not to trick or treat, so we decided to organise a Halloween Trail instead and spread it around the three villages for social distancing.

“We have around 100 families with children at the school but we’re hoping that other people from the villages will also take part.”

The trail can be followed using an interactive map which can be found on the Halloween Trail website. Once you find each of the displays, you can mark them off on the map on your mobile phone.

The trail has been co-ordinated and planned by Kirsty Clark and Amy Robinson, who have also set up a justgiving page to encourage donations towards enhancing the children’s learning journeys at the school.

So far, they have raised £127 and are hoping to raise several hundred pounds despite not setting an initial target.

A Mufti day was also held on Wednesday, October 21 with £1 donations encouraged for children to come to school dressed in Halloween or ‘non-magic’ Muggle outfits.
