Malmesbury Royal Air Force Air Cadets992 (Malmesbury) Squadron, Royal Air Force Air Cadets have three new shining stars as the squadron implements the next stage of its plan for a successful future by promoting Cadets Rex Charman, Toby Jarvis and Ben Bassindale to the Rank of Cadet Corporal.

The three teenagers, who all attend Malmesbury Secondary School, were selected for promotion after many weeks of observation watching for skills and characteristics required to carry out the role of a Junior Non Commissioned Officer (JNCO). They also had to write a letter to say why they should be promoted and also pass an interview.

All three cadets have shown exceptional levels of commitment and maturity in recent months and displayed attributes such as confidence, loyalty, open communication and a desire to take the squadron forward as it builds on the successes of the last 6 months.

Flt Lt Milward said “All three wrote letters prior to the interview stage that demonstrated they had clearly thought about the requirements of the role of a JNCO and the needs of the squadron over the coming months. They conducted themselves in an interview environment with a maturity I would expect of people far beyond their years. They are under no illusion of the responsibility that being a JNCO on 992 brings, and I Iook forward to watching them develop over the coming months and years.”

On hearing the news of their promotion, Clark Harrell Assistant Headteacher at Malmesbury School said “We are very proud of our students and it is fantastic to see the high levels of commitment they demonstrate in school being transferred to the broader aspects of their lives. We have many students who enjoy Air Cadets and we are lucky that such a well-established squadron operates locally, providing excellent opportunities for our students.”
