Malmesbury Community ChoirDo you love to sing but only manage a few snatched moments in the shower? Well, you might be interested to hear that there’s a new community choir coming to town.

There’s seems to be a growing trend these days, following the popularity of Gareth Malone’s TV shows and his successful Military Wives Choir, for communities to want to get together and sing. Malmesbury and it’s surrounding villages are no longer an exception. A group of local residents, who met through singing, have taken the plunge and founded a brand new choir.

The Malmesbury Community Choir will welcome anyone over the age of 14, whatever their experience, and will meet in the Old School Room at Malmesbury’s Town Hall every Monday evening from 7.30 to 9.30. “There will be no auditions and you won’t ever be expected to sing on your own (unless you really want to!)” says co-founder, Emma Harris. “There’ll be a small fee of £5 for each session to cover the costs - which isn’t bad for two hours of entertainment these days - and 14-17 year olds get to come along for free.”

The Musical Director, Laurie Jones, has an enormous amount of experience directing choirs and singing professionally, having performed nationally with the likes of Jamie Cullum, Alfie Boe, Hayley Westenra and Katherine Jenkins. “Laurie brings an abundance of energy and fun to singing, and we’re delighted to have him as part of the team” commented co-founder, Nick Armstrong.

The choir will launch at a special, free, open event in the Old School Room at the Town Hall on Monday 17th June where you’ll get to experience life in a choir with a bit of a sing-a-long, a lot of fun and a chance to meet others who love singing too. Doors open at 7.30pm and the session will go on until 9.30pm. There’s no need to book – just turn up.

“The rewards and enjoyment I’ve experienced through singing in a choir are immense” says board member, Natalie Kenyon, “I love singing in a group, getting to know the people around me and becoming more and more confident about singing out.“

So, why not dust off your vocal cords and get along to the Town Hall? It sounds like a lot of fun!
