The Core Strategy sets out how Wiltshire Council see the County developing in the period 2006 to 2026. A second phase of Public Consultation is necessary following changes introduced by the Coalition government subsequent to 2009.
We currently understand that while the proposal for new house builds for the County has been reduced from 44,000 to 37,000, the proposed new housing total for Malmesbury has actually increased from 730 to 760 new houses. As of April 2010, 334 of these houses have already been built, 139 have been granted planning, so leaving new sites to be found for 287 new houses.
The proposal fails to recognise local community opposition registered at earlier proposals for Park Road (77 new houses) and Filands (200 new houses), at meetings of the Malmesbury Area Board and the Town Council.
The figure represents an increase in the size of the town of 36% over the period of the Core Strategy. It will impact on us all with increased pressure on schools which are already full, health care, impact on the Conservation Area, parking, traffic.
It is vital that we as the local community make clear our views on these proposals.
Please keep a part of Monday 18th July free in your diary to attend the exhibition and to let your views be known.
